The Bookshop (2.0/5)

A sad little film in so many ways. What’s behind Emily Mortimer’s bookshop owner’s fragile optimism, why are the village gentry and commoners so against the bookshop? This slow moving film delivers reasons not motivations, consequently the characters lack depth resolving simply into goodies and baddies. The adult cast become so melancholy that it is left to the children to bring in a little light. A film best left on the bookshelf.
