In this pair of multi-screen video installations Akomfrah asks us to reflect on issues at sea: slavery and migration; pollution and whaling. An interesting juxtaposition that exposes man's desire to control and destroy, to inflict suffering. Akomfrah uses montage over narrative with slow and careful cinematography that can be ponderous, though is always beautiful and occasionally startling. Timely and thoughtful, if overlong.
