The Lowry (4.0/5.0)

Diary 2014-13
LS Lowry (4.0/5.0)
The Lowry
Salfords Quays, England
17 June 2014

In my ignorance LS Lowry equates to slightly dull "matchstick men"; the Lowry's permanent exhibiton corrected this mis-perception.  The "matchstick men" are alive with the realities of Northern England life (circa 1910-70), characters with a sense of movement as if passing through each work, for example "Going to the Match".  The Lowry presents an artist comfortable with seascapes and landscapes, still life and portraiture; powerful and thoughtful yet lonely within a strong sense of time and place.
