A simple set gives the big ensemble cast freedom to plunge into this gripping family drama with great skill. The naive idealistic son, his brooding friend, well meaning dithering parents, the cynical relative and troublesome staff. A time of change within family and society principles are challenged by blooming love and family loyalties. With not a single superfluous word or character Friel's masterful adaption resonates from 1860's Russia to the present day.
