The Big Short (4.5/5)

You can't beat a well-told story.  We know the outcome, yet "The Big Short" is suspenseful.  The characters a pastiche of fund managers and bankers, flamboyant hustlers to socially inept nerds, but they're believable.  The narrative flits from comedy to drama to tragedy and through the fourth wall without losing its way.  A tight film cutting away GFC financial-babble to expose the fraud, greed and stupidity: leaving you asking, "Have we learnt anything?"
