Enjoyable if not gripping second outing for Abrams' Star Trek world with a cast more comfortable in their roles and cleverly worked references to Roddenberry's early version. The young Kirk starts to mature in the face Cumberbatch's very cool villain, though overall character and narrative are sacrificed for lengthy action sequences.
