Quartet (2.5/5)
Village Cinemas, Crown, Melbourne
27th December 2012
Director: Dusting Hoffman
Cast: Pauline Collins, Billy Connolly, Tom Courtenay, Maggie Smith,
A gentle tale set in a retirement home for classical singers and musicians preparing for their annual concert. The cast use their vast experience to coast through their roles, though Courtenay is very good as Smith's ex-husband - one of many aired yet unexplored backstories. Directing for the first time Hoffman general takes the easy route letting the story follow a "senior" pace with no great emphasis. Enjoyable in a undemanding way.
Art and About: a personal blog comprising "On Show" arts reviews (all in 75 words or less) and travel diaries. I write about what matters to me. The Arts matter because they offer joy and sadness, thrills and insights. Travel matters because like the Arts it broadens the mind and soul with new experiences.
