(Star Voyager: Exploring Space on Screen)
Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne
15th January 2012
Artist: Julian Rosefeldt
A delight
in an ok exhibition. Rosefeldt’s
absorbing 4-channel film takes four work shifts and blows open the concept of
“shift” with the realisation it’s one worker shifting uniform and place; places
of extraordinary beauty and solitude: mine, archive, power station and space
station. Four screens neatly play out in 24 permutations. A nod to “2001” and other sci-fi classics,
this work subtly challenges the shifting vagaries of life amongst a background
of technological change.
