Day (02) 27 December: Carole’s birthday

In the normal world it would be Carole’s birthday today, we should be hitting the sales then going to the ballet. But it’s not normal, it’s still Carole’s birthday with celebrations put off until we can join our friends in the big wide world. I wish Gladys Berejiklian would put off Sydney’s NYE fireworks. Let’s celebrate a Covid free world, not create a super spreader event.

Yesterday was written-off, so today is a day to start getting organised. It’s sunny outside, which causes a dilemma or two. I can’t go outside, I have no balcony or operable windows, the view east is blocked by the adjacent building. How can I enjoy the sun? Science says sunlight is good for getting over jet lag, I know it works but through a layer of dark glass? With a bit of improvisation the bath becomes a sun lounger. If I ran some water and spread some sand I could image I’m on a beach.

Before I get settled into an afternoon of sunbathing there are things to do. A food parcel arrives curtsey of Carole and Coles, then the nurse knocks on the door and tickles my nose. If I am carrying the coronavirus I will know in two to three days. I won’t hear if I’m negative. This disturbs me, what happens if my test gets lost? It would be reassuring to know all results are reported. For the next half hour I sneeze until the nasal irritation settles down.

It is announced via the Amora Sydney Iso 2000 Facebook page that this evening one of the guests is organising a trivia quiz via Zoom. (Are we guests? That would be a contentious trivia question). In a low scoring game my trivia score hits the median around 13/44. It is interesting to hear how fellow isolators are passing their days - buying in exercise equipment and microwaves (why?), jogging several kilometres every day and discovering towel origami.
