Smart, feminist, sugar-coated, adaption. Encouraged by their mother, maid and dowager aunt the four March daughters come-of-age in mid-C19th Massachusetts. A non-linear film jumping between daughter Jo writing Little Women, the younger girls and the girls as young women - effective but takes getting use to. Meryl Streep is a bitingly sharp aunt, Saoirse Ronan as Jo is surely the next Streep. I find the March’s infuriatingly talented and happy - envy?
