First impressions: a relaxed city if a little grimy, friendly people fluent in English, good food everywhere and few American chains, bikes and more bikes, so few cars. The grim 1960-80’s architecture that blights other cities largely avoided. Everyone walks or cycles yet there are no crowds, the only danger from straying into a cycle lane. An easy city for tourists mixing historical and contemporary, even the reviving meatpacking district's edginess is considerately restrained.
