Tao Dance Theatre
Studio, Sydney Opera House
26th August 2012
Choreographer: Tao Ye
Tao Ye "eschews representational modes of dance", which may make his work contemporary but it also strips away expression and feeling. Three pieces of walking (synchronised), baton twirling and floor work delivered precision, agility and some complexity, whilst being one paced and repetitive. It's easy to imagine Chinese authorities lapping this up as evidence of artistic freedom, but really it's safe and uncontroversial.
Art and About: a personal blog comprising "On Show" arts reviews (all in 75 words or less) and travel diaries. I write about what matters to me. The Arts matter because they offer joy and sadness, thrills and insights. Travel matters because like the Arts it broadens the mind and soul with new experiences.
