Three Works by Nacho Duato (4.5/5)
(Por Vos Muero, Gnawa, White Darkness)
Campania Nacional de Danza, Lyric Theatre, Sydney, 6th January 2008
Engrossing, elegant, superlative dance. Duato’s style is all limbs, never ungainly, always graceful.
Por Vos Muero – an elegant fusion of XV, XVI and XXI century dance and music. Gnawa – a flowing rhythmic exploration of sub-Saharan culture. White Darkness – a lonely tale of drug abuse with a haunting ending. Delicate lighting and a minimal setting allowed the dancers to flow. Only a sound system that lacked colour detracted from an excellent evening.
