Kin (2.5/5)
Sydney Festival, The Studio, Sydney Opera House, 26th January 2008
The making of Kin by Stephen Page with his young cousins and nephews is probably more significant than the performance, placing the oral tradition in a modern context. Young indigenous music is moving from C&W to hip-hop and rap; that the message of deprivation and discrimination remains the same is to the shame of white Australia. Endearing as the kids are, it’s more a show for family & friends than a general audience.
